Elevator to Space

I needed to add a two person dialogue to my animation demo reel. Finding characters to use was not the easiest thing when I was looking for free and free to use rigs. I eventually did find these two then all I needed was the audio. I pulled this elevator to space clip from one of my favorite podcasts called Popcorn Culture. Not only did that give me a fun investment in the audio, but since this is being used for my demo reel, if a potential employer were to ask about the audio, it gives me an opening to tell more about me as this podcast is just two brothers talking about childhood and now raising kids of their own. I figured that could help in an interview to give an insight as to who I am as a dad of a boy and in a few short months a girl.
As far as the animation goes, it is carried mostly by the character on the right, so I needed to focus on the obvious aspects of the performance to make both feel alive, but also make sure the left character is not distracting while they share the screen. I was given the advice to create a separate camera shot for the left guy to focus on his expressions. By the time I cut away, I had already established that the orange shirt guy was speaking, and this broke up the animation so it's not just the same camera angle for 22 seconds.
Dialogue is not the easiest thing to do, but once I got into the groove, the animation and I became one. I can't wait to do another multi person dialogue for the reel. My Knock Yourself Out scene shows sass and distain, while this one is fun and imaginative. Perhaps the next one can tackle a different emotional tone.
